Dr. Sikka also attended Bucknell University, Pennsylvania 1948; Colorado School of Mines, Golden Colorado 1948-50; Graduate courses in Hydrology, Columbia University, New York. Dr. Sikka was awarded first prize and President’s gold medal by the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy for the Ph.D. thesis (1960). He has 36 published papers and more than 50 unpublished reports to his credit.
Dr. Sikka has forty-eight years experience in petroleum and mineral exploration in Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Greece, India, Mexico, Sierra Leone, the Sudan, the U.S.A.. He has a number of mineral discoveries to his credit including close to a ± 0.8 billion tonne porphyry copper deposit (0.83% Cu) in the Proterozoic rocks at Malanjkhand, M.P., and Kudermukh iron ore deposit, Karnataka, India. He pioneered the development of gamma-ray spectrometry in oil and mineral exploration.
His experience includes the interpretation and correlation of geological, geophysical and geochemical data; creation of “Operation Hard Rock” in India (1963) and now called the Department of Airborne Mineral Surveys and Exploration Wing of the Geological Survey India; exploration and development of phosphorite, Fe, Mn, Ni laterites, unconformity related and sediment hosted, Cu-Pb-Zn, Cu-Mo-Ni-U-Co-Se-Te; porphyry copper; Mo-Sn-W-Au, Ag, Ag-Pb-Zn-Au; ilmenite, lithium, chrome, potash, ground water, etc.; designing and guiding diamond drilling programmes; estimation of ore reserves including use of geostatistical analysis, and preparation of feasability and pre-feasability reports for mining and metallurgical complexes 100 TPD to 45000 TPD.
He has made Market Surveys-Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, barytes, vermiculite, lithium, rare earths, etc., and trading of some of these commodities and has negotiated a production sharing agreement with the Egyptian Government. He has evaluated the mining operations at Bharat Gold Mines Ltd. and has suggested measures to reduce the high cost of minerals in India.
He has worked for a number of mining companies in Canada, India, the Bahamas and the U.S.A.. He acted as an Honourary Advisor to the Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL-1981-1985) and the Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL-1981) and UNDP Token Expert for HCL and UCIL. He was the Chief Geologist for the National Mineral Development Corp. and Chief Geologist/Chief Executive Planning (Acting) Hindustan Copper Ltd. Since 1972, he has been consulting major and junior mining companies; President, Sikka and Associated Ltd., Bahamas, Sairam Research and Development Inc. Now, (September 2003) President of Barfanisai Enterprises Inc.
He is a Life Member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy; Life Fellow Geological Society of India; Life Member, Mining, Geological, Metallurgical Institute of India; Senior, Member, Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits; Life Member, Association of Exploration Geophysicists (India); Member, Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada; Professional Geoscientist, Association Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan; Member, Ordre des Géologues du Québec; listed in the International Who’s Who of Professionals for the year 1997, Outstanding People of the 20th Century, 1999 and 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of The 20th Century (specialization in Economic Geology/Geochemistry).
